JohnBASSETTJuly 23rd 2008 On what would have been John's 80th birthday, his loving wife, Joyce, his Family and Friends recall many happy memories. He was a keen gardener, and enjoyed a game of whist, also a flutter on the gee-gees. It has been saidS 'An army marches on its stomach', well John did his army duty as a chef in the Officers' Mess. After marriage in his 'demob suit' John's first 'civvy' job was the heavy one of filling tubs at Stafford's Salt Works. Sadly, that important industry was forced to close, so next he became a fitter's mate at the British Reinforced Concrete factory. Also, cultivating allotments helped to feed his family. In tough times, it was a matter of 'needs must', and none of us went short - thanks to John's versatility and graft. Nett xx
